Background
On November 2, 2010, an agreement to help Malaysia develop its first fully integrated private four-year graduate medical school and teaching hospital was signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Signatories to the agreement included four strategic collaborators:
The Johns Hopkins University
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), the international arm of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, USA
Academic Medical Centre Sdn Bhd, subsidiary of Chase Perdana Sdn Bhd, a Kuala Lumpur-based private development corporation, and an associate company of Turiya Berhad
As a demonstration of the importance of this international collaboration, the official signing was witnessed by United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin Bin Mohd Yassin.
