Unified MQE – possibly coming?

The Star reports Bill to strengthen Malaysian Medical Council tabled in Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bill, which aims to strengthen the Malaysian Medical Council and enhance the regulation of the medical profession, was tabled for first reading at the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin tabled the Medical (Amendment) Bill 2012.
The proposed amendment introduces the establishment of a Medical Qualifying Committee to look into the accreditation of qualifications of both local and international training institutions.
The Bill also seeks to establish the council as a corporate body.
The council may enter into contracts and acquire or lease property, as it deems fit

We’ll have to wait to see how this unravels.

  1. Even if they implement suh exam for all graduate, there will be non satisfaction as well especially among the foreign graduates as I foresee majority of the foreign graduates especially those from Russia and Indonesia will fail the exam. Those local graduate and those from commonwealth countries will probably having no problem of passing the exam. Those who fail the exam will then accuse the gov of bias against them. The parents of these student will then throw all sort of allegations against MOH or MMC

  2. Most likely the MQE will be based on the local final year exam (the Big 3 may take turn to organize this. Naturally the local graduates will have the best passing rate. The foreign graduate especially for those from Commonwealth countries will probably have no problem of passing the exam too. But this MQE will be a problem for graduate from countries like Indonesia, Russia and middle East. I predict that majority (maybe as high as 70-90%) of them will fail the exam. They will accuse the MOH or MMC being biased against them. They and their parent will create a lot of noise and pressure to MMC.

  3. Owh shut up Poor Doctor….Malaysia is high time to practise like PLAB and USMLE…

If you are good at it, pass PLAB or USMLE or AMC….this MQE has no transparency….have you ever been dismissed from exam when the doctor said: I WILL FAIL YOU BECAUSE I DON’T LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE (whereby the one who got such word is the kindest person i ever known)

  4. This is a racial examination whereby 95% of a perticular race testing the 95% of a another race.
The examiners are half-cooked doctors with racial prejudices. If they were ask to sit for the nuetral examination like USML,Plab or Australian exam they will fail miserably.
Let the students of the recognised university sit for the MQA examination. Why the government dont want to. Even a stupid person knows the answer.I PERSONALLY DARE NOT GO TO A GOVERNMENT CLINICS WHERE THE DOCTORS ARE WEIRD. I QUESTION THEIR ABILITY TO TREAT PATIENT.PEOPLE ARE WORRIED AND THEY SELECT DOCTORS WHEN THEY VISIT GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL

  5. I don’t see common exam for all as a problem to anyone. If Malaysian local graduates are up to Malaysian standard, they can pass the exam without any problem so why does anyone seeing it as an issue? Kenya is a 3rd world country and even they have a common exam for all including their own people so Malaysia can do the same! Many less developed countries like Africa,Ispanic and Middle East did a better job to prevent the problems which never been solved in our country.I’m a Malaysian graduated from Ukraine. I sat for the MQE exam twice and failed.I was discriminated by the doctors, lectures, students and even by the Dean of Medical Faculty in Malaysia.I had a hard time and went through a huge stress moments. Malaysian “system” made me look like a competent doctor but it never break my strength. I sat for Kenyan Qualifying Exam and passed! Soon I’m finishing my HO and I already applied to work with UN which they promised to take me in once I’m done with my compulsory duration to work with Kenyan Hospital.A junior of mine already passed Plab 1 and 2 and she is searching for a job in UK. Two of my colleagues who were graduated from Romania are working in Canada and Germany and they are also finishing their HO in few months. Another group of Indian graduates done with their PGs in Dubai and now they working in Dubai. So please refresh me, how a WHO recognised medical universities are not recognised by MMC and more than 90% of us failed the MQE each year but we could pass other country’s qualifying exam and we are doing good? So far,I never kill any of my patients! Even I was sent to help the people in Dadaab and I did a marvelous job.I know that I can do better for my own people in Malaysia but the “system” never wanted me so I left to serve those needy people. I took an oath and I’ll carry it till my last breath. Many of my colleagues refused to leave Malaysia because they want to stay and serve for the country.Don’t let them go,you will never know what are their capabilities. Personally I feel that most of these unrecognised medical graduates can be a better doctors compare to those JPA and MARA sponsored especially those who refused to come back because of better pays and lifestyle abroad! Make the common exam and we’ll see the result. You might be surprised!

  6. THE LOCAL GRADUATE ARE GOOD FOR NOTHING.THAT IS WHY THE U.K MEDICAL BODY DOES NOT RECOGNISE UNIVERSITY MALAYA DEGREE.EVEN SINGAPORE DOES NOT RECOGNISE OUR DEGREE.WE JUST HAVE TO BLOW OUR OWN TRUMPET WHICH WE ARE GOOD FOR.THE STUDENTS FROM UNRECOGNISED UNIVERSITIES WHICH IS RECOGNISED BY W.H.O AND GMC AND OTHER INTENATIONAL MEDICAL BODIES IS NOT RECOGNISED ONLY MALAYSIA BECAUSE WE ARE TOO GOOD!!!!.WE SEEM TO RECOGNISE AND DERECOGNISE OTHER COUNTRIES UNIVERSITIES.WE ARE THE BEACHMARK FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD BECAUSE WE ARE SO GOOD AND HAVE NOBLE PRICE WINNER ALL THE TIME FROM MALAYSIA.
STOP ALL THE BULLSHITS AND CRABS.OUR OWN CITIZEN HAVE NO RESPECT WITH OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, WHAT MORE OF OTHERS. TO PUT IN THE NUTSHELL,THE ISSUE IS RACIAL.THOSE WHO ARE IN THE SYSTEM ARE SLAVES,FEAR TO EXPRESS BECAUSE THEY WILL BEING REPRIMENDED. EVERYTHING IS SHIT AND IT IS DECAYING

  7. once I secured a job in any of the Australia hospital(which im trying on right now)..the first person that i would tell is the Poor Doctor
